The presentation was positioned as an exciting new chapter. I was trying to follow the organisation chart when I realised my role had moved, my reporting line had changed and part of my portfolio had disappeared.
Nobody had spoken to me beforehand. The slide moved on before I had time to understand what the announcement meant for me. I smiled because everybody else seemed to be looking for my reaction.
The change itself might have been workable. What damaged my trust was learning that a decision about my future had been prepared for an audience before anyone thought to have a conversation with me.
